SSL360Design™ utilizes TSR patent pending LED on heat sink concept which eliminates the typical thermal interface materials such as thermal grease or a thin layer of thermal interface material. The grease has the historical problem of not being spread consistently or with partial coverage causing additional thermal resistance and hot spots. The thermal interface materials have to be applied with as thin a material as possible to minimize the thermal resistance. In both cases the LED MCPCB must be screwed down to apply pressure to the interface material to have complete contact between two mating surfaces. This process is not scientific in its application or assembly and increases a significant variable in assembly. The result is an assembly that has added thermal resistance that will increase the junction temperature and ultimately shorten the life of the LEDs as well as develop color shifts over a period of time.
TSR’s SSL360Design™ eliminate the thermal interface completely, providing designs that perform with as much as 10°C to 15°C lower junction temperature. This is a major improvement over conventional designs that makes an LED lamp much more reliable, increasing the operation life time and improving the quality of color and lumen output.
The resulting technology breakthrough offers a patent pending manufacturing design and accelerates the build process, increasing the yield for acceptable high quality products.
The SSL360Design™ also provides important thermal management characteristics for a given product design allowing flexibility for packaging and customers’ design esthetics.
The ability of optimizing the design for future short term and longer term refresh of LEDs and supporting drivers/electronics greatly improves the way to add functions and decreasing costs over the life of a product design.
Customers are now able to plan on “make to order” relationships with their outlets and eliminate the costly inventory of hundreds of SKU items that would otherwise be required for conventional manufacturing procedures.
The SSL360 Design™ also addresses the electronics for the drivers and wireless radios and wireless antennas. The matching of the electronics to the LEDs is influenced by the way the luminaire is assembled making changes very difficult and expensive with conventional designs, not so with SSL360Design™. The exact opposite happens with these advanced designs that eliminate many of the conventional problems with efficient plug’n play, snap together products. These design approaches are necessary for high volume manufacturing and is the only way to increase quality and performance while driving costs down.
